In the past, City Bylaws had prevented us from having full-service food trucks selling tasty treats on our streets. We only had the odd sausage / hot dog / falafel cart as our choices of street meat. With the official launch of the Calgary food truck pilot launch on August 11th, foodies (and everyone else) in town will now rejoice in tasting a little more variety whilst wandering the streets. Follow @AlleyBurger, @PerogyBoyz, @loscompadresmx, @fiascogelato, @fries_n_dolls, @JoJosBBQ , as well as @yycfoodtrucks on Twitter for their locations around town.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t line up as early as I wanted, due to work and also some lolly-gagging co-workers who were humming and hawing about checking out the newest food craze. By the time I got there at 11:30, there had to have been at least a thousand people in various lines. Too bad I didn’t have the afternoon off or I would have stood in line for the amazing Alley Burger.
I did however, have the opportunity to check out two of the trucks. Los Compadres and Fiasco Gelato. It’s a shame that they ran out of tacos while I was waiting (with only 10 people in front of me), but the Torta Bispeck was delightful.
